Stereoboard Interviews The Pierces - Catherine Pierce Speaks About New Album (Interview)

Earlier this month, ‘You & I’, the fourth album from New York-based folk-pop duo The Pierces, hurtled into the UK Albums Chart at Number Four, marking the sisters’ first Top 10 release on this side of the pond and a very warm welcome to the start of their current tour. In the four years since the release of their last album, 2007’s ‘Thirteen Tales of Love and Revenge’, sisters Catherine and Allison Pierce, who are originally from Birmingham in Alabama, have been busy working on new music and contemplating their future. Also in that time, the pair teamed up with Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman, who co-produced ‘You & I’ with his production partner Rik Simpson. With a brand-new album out, The Pierces have a busy year ahead with a number of UK shows planned, including dates at Glastonbury, Hop Farm Festival and Summer Sundae Weekender. Stereoboard recently caught up with Catherine Pierce to find out more about the band and their new album.

Born on the Isle of Lewis, singer-songwriter Colin MacLeod, aka The Boy Who Trapped the Sun, has been gaining a lot of acclaim for his debut album 'Fireplace'. Geoff Rickly of Thursday talks to Stereoboard about New Album ‘No Devolucion’ (Interview)

“It feels like more of an English record than anything we’ve done before,” says Thursday vocalist Geoff Rickly, a few hours before the band’s performance at Millennium Music Hall in Cardiff. Just over a week prior to this latest string of UK dates, the New Jersey post-hardcore sextet unleashed their sixth album No Devolucion on the world. As fans and critics have since discovered, the band’s newest effort represents somewhat of a diversion from their previous work. However, as Geoff goes on to explain, this new direction has proved to be a pleasantly surprising release. “We’ve never had such positive reviews. Stereoboard Speaks To Heath Hospodarsky & James Lyle Of Giants To Talk About The New EP (Interview)

Initially formed in 2005 in Americas mid west, post rock outfit Giants have never relented in doing things their way. Their self titled first EP recorded on a shoestring in Cedar Falls, Iowa was originally intended to have vocals, but when the band heard the instrumental tracks they felt their music was strong enough on its own merit and left the vocals out. The band hand burned three hundred CD-R’s of the EP and sold out of them after just their first two shows. This was the end of the EP until now.

Stereoboard Talk To Twenty Twenty Ahead of UK Tour Supporting The Wanted (Interview)

Twenty Twenty have had a jam-packed 2 years to say the least; the trio hailing from Essex have notched up top ten hits in the Indie Singles and Music DVD charts, toured with mainstream royalty such as The Saturdays, Tinchy Stryder and Scouting for Girls and are now about to release their first mini album entitled ‘Small Talk’ on May 2nd. This level of experience is quite impressive for a group that were only formed at the end of 2009 and signed last year. Tipped to be the next Busted, Twenty Twenty’s brand of rock-kissed pop has already earned them a legion of fans on Facebook that has reached the 53,000 mark. I caught up with them as they begin their latest string of gigs – this time supporting the Brit Award nominated The Wanted on a 16 date tour around the country.

Guillemots Discuss Their New Album ‘Walk The River’ (Interview)

Guillemots are a Mercury Prize-nominated four-piece known for their passionate musical visions and eccentric choice of instruments. Folk Singer Teddy Thompson on His New Album ‘Bella’ (Interview)

Ask Teddy Thompson for his opinion on present-day British music and you’ll find that he’s sure to give you nothing less than a straight answer. “The current state of mainstream chart music is truly awful.” It’s a fair point. Coming from a background such as his, it must be difficult to be optimistic about popular music when the entire industry appears to be led by money and fame rather than the music itself. Born in London to singer Linda Thompson and former Fairport Convention guitarist Richard Thompson, Teddy was brought up on a diet of ‘50s and ‘60s rock and roll, which gave him his first taste for a life of music. “The main influence my parents had was to expose me to The Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly. That music shaped me.” After gaining an initial interest at home, he continued on his musical journey upon reaching school. “I took guitar lessons at about 11 and then I went off to boarding school at 13. It was a very artistic school named Bedales. Music was a big part of life there.”

Jon from The Fratellis Speaks to Stereoboard about New Solo Album and Band’s Future (Interview)

“I’m not sure if I’m a band kind of person,” admits Jon Fratelli. “I like playing music with people, but I’m not sure if I’m suited to the personalities and the politics that sometimes go into being in an official band.” It’s been nearly two years since Glaswegian rock trio The Fratellis parted ways and, while the former frontman declines to rule anything out, he confesses that a reunion seems unlikely in the foreseeable future. “I’m a great believer in that life has to keep on moving and that everything has its particular time. We were in that band for four or five years together and that seems like enough to me.”

You used to seem such a cheerful band, what happened? Thomas Heron (Drums): Were we? Lyrically we never were! Murray Macleod (Vocals/Guitar): Yeah, lyrically on the first record that’s not really true. There was always a hopeful message buried deep within the cynicism I felt but that seems to have disappeared of late. MM: Yeah, a lot of stuff happened to me and it would’ve been a completely different record had those things not happened but they did and that’s what shaped the record. We Are Scientists Bassist Chris Cain Talks To Stereoboard Following End Of European Tour (Interview)

Everything Everything chat to Stereoboard about debut album and NME Awards Tour 2011 (Interview)

It’s been quite a year for experimental indie art-rockers Everything Everything. After a number of successful festival appearances, the Manchester-based four-piece released their widely-praised debut album ‘Man Alive’ at the end of August before heading out on a headlining autumn tour. They are due to end the year with two shows in London and Manchester, where they will play the album in its entirety with some help from a classical ensemble. Eastpak Antidote Tour 2010: Headliners Sum 41 chat to Stereoboard (Interview)

Next week, the Eastpak Antidote Tour will be hitting the road again for its sixth year running and four more awesome bands have been lined up for the occasion. The tour will spring into action with seven dates in the UK, before heading out on a month-long trek around mainland Europe. Canadian pop-punk-metallers Sum 41 are this year’s headliners and they’ll be bringing three other great bands along with them. First up are The Black Pacific, the new band of former Pennywise frontman Jim Lindberg, who released their self-titled debut album last month. Joining them for the ride are Texan punk’n’rollers the Riverboat Gamblers and one of Epitaph Records’ most recent signings Veara.

Since the 2008 release of their second album ‘The Chemistry of Common Life’, Toronto-based punkers F*cked Up have made quite a name for themselves within the alternative rock scene on both sides of the pond. After the release of Hold Your Colour (2005), Pendulum quickly became a staple for any Drum & Bass playlist. The single Tarantula became an instant chart success, slurred as a drunken request in dingy clubs all over the country, and with this the new breakbeat kings were crowned. Known for resurrecting a fading genre, the band rested on anything but their laurels with In Silico (2008), an album which fused guitar spikes with electronic influences into a sound which was easier to digest than their previous effort: it entered into the UK charts at number two, narrowly missing the top spot.

Irish Rockers Ash Talk Brit Pop, Charlotte Hatherley, Coldplay & A-Z Series (Interview)

The Irish indie rockers who shot to fame during the 90's with their debut album track 'Girl from Mars', talk to us about the Brit Pop phenomenon, their collaborations and influence on Coldplay's Chris Martin and hooking up with Russell Lissack from Bloc Party.
